A police officer was shot and taken to WakeMed with a "serious gunshot wound," police said in a previous update. He is out of surgery and listed in critical condition as of late Tuesday night, Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson said at a late-night press conference.
The suspect who shot at officers from inside the home, police said, died at the scene.
Authorities announced the death of a second person in connection with the shooting late Tuesday night, saying a man had been taken to the hospital from the scene and died from his injuries.

1. Rare snowfall blankets much of eastern North Carolina

Snow and some sleet continued to fall across parts of North Carolina until daybreak Wednesday. Even the lighter accumulations will lead to dangerous driving conditions as the snow will stick to roads. Hazardous road conditions will likely continue into Wednesday.

2. Basketball showcase inspires girls to ‘Dream Big’

Elite Exposure Basketball hosted a talent showcase for high school basketball players in the Raleigh area. The event focused on inspiring young girls through the accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The goal for the event is to get kids noticed and eventually recruited for college basketball so they can get a free education.

3. ITRE continues to make strides in transportation research

The Institute for Transportation Research and Education is located on N.C. State's campus. ITRE recently received a $3 million grant from the federal government for a rail crossing elimination project. The director of  ITRE, Billy Williams, says they work with everyone from people just getting into the industry to transportation executives.
