1. Evacuations ordered as wildfires spread in Polk County

Crews were battling three forest fires Friday, but terrain and high winds continued to be a challenge. The state Forest Service announced a statewide burn ban.

2. Nonprofit helps rebuild Swannanoa mobile home park after Helene

A mobile home park near the Swannanoa River that was severely damaged by Hurricane Helene is getting help from the nonprofit CORE.

3. Heathrow Airport closure prompts flight delays, cancellations at U.S. airports

More than 3,000 flights into or out of the U.S. were delayed, and 1,109 have been canceled, most of them on the East Coast, after a fire at an electrical substation shut off power to the international air travel hub in the London area.

4. Portuguese man o’war spotted on Emerald Isle beaches: Public alert issued

Beachgoers were urged to stay vigilant after several Portuguese man o’wars washed ashore along the tide line.
