1. Mecklenburg County sheriff responds to ICE on arrest of illegal immigrants
The agency said the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office did not honor active detainer warrants during the arrests. Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden responded, saying they cannot honor the detainers unless they were signed by a judge.
2. Sports betting revenue taxes lead to big payout for N.C.
According to the N.C. State Lottery Commission, the state’s gross wagering revenue totals more than $713 million in the first year. With the 18% tax, the state is projected to receive more than $128 million in proceeds.
3. Person rushed first responders with a weapon, shot and killed in Pinehurst, officials say
While crews were working on putting out a fire, a person came out of the home charging at first responders with a weapon, according to town officials. Police shot him and transported him to a hospital where he died.
