After a cold start to Christmas week, milder temperatures are back in the forecast for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Low pressure developing off the southeastern coast could give a few areas in central North Carolina a little freezing rain late Monday night and into very early Tuesday morning. No major impacts are expected.
Areas from the Triad to Charlotte westward should remain dry. Central North Carolina will see a small shower chance Tuesday morning.
East of Interstate 95 will see a better chance for showers during the first half of Tuesday followed by some afternoon clearing.

1. Greensboro police officer killed in grocery store shooting, suspect arrested, officials say
A police officer was shot and killed inside a grocery store in Greensboro Monday morning. Authorities made an arrest, Greensboro police officials announced at an afternoon media conference and added there was no threat to the public. Officer Michael Horan, who had been with the department since 2018, died in the shooting.
2. House Ethics Committee accuses Gaetz of ‘regularly’ paying for sex, including with 17-year-old girl
The 37-page report by the bipartisan panel includes explicit details of sex-filled parties and vacations that Matt Gaetz, now 42, took part in from 2017 to 2020 while representing Florida’s western panhandle. The findings conclude that he violated multiple state laws related to sexual misconduct while in office.
3. Deputy fatally shoots armed man in Lee County, officials say
A deputy shot and killed an armed man in Sanford late Saturday night, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office. The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. on Poplar Springs Church Road, a location from which deputies received a 911 hang-up call.
4. Luigi Mangione pleads not guilty to state murder and other charges in United Healthcare CEO's death
The man accused of fatally shooting the CEO of UnitedHealthcare pleaded not guilty on Monday to murder and terror charges in a state case that will run parallel to his federal prosecution. Luigi Mangione, 26, was shackled and seated in a Manhattan court when he leaned over to a microphone to enter his plea.
