Today's Big Stories

1. What is the 'Citizens-Only Amendment' on the ballot in North Carolina?

The amendment would change this sentence in the state constitution: "Every person born in the United States and every person who has been naturalized, 18 years of age, and possessing the qualifications set out in this Article, shall be entitled to vote at any election by the people of the State, except as herein otherwise provided."

2. 'Measure of success': Nearly 1 million people attended the N.C. State Fair this year

It was the sixth biggest turnout in the fair's 156-year history, according to state leaders. The final attendance was 998,926. Western North Carolina vendors and crafters participated in the fair, allowing them to make money during storm recovery in their area.

3. Harris, Trump coming to N.C. with a week left until election

Trump will be visiting Rocky Mount on Wednesday for a rally that will begin at 1 p.m. Harris will visit Raleigh, North Carolina, on the same day for a campaign event, and Walz will travel to Greensboro, Asheville and Charlotte to encourage people to vote early for Democrats on the ballot.

4. A century after Native Americans got the right to vote, they could put Trump or Harris over the top

In swing states like Arizona, North Carolina, Michigan, and Nevada, the candidates — particularly Vice President Kamala Harris — have been targeting Native Americans with radio ads and events on tribal lands, featuring speakers like Bill Clinton and Donald Trump Jr.
