NATIONAL — As the Coronavirus continues to spread across the globe, a number of local events have been canceled or postponed out of concerns for public safety. Events and schools all across North Carolina have had to modfiy schedules and control crowds.
Many restricitions aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19 remain in place as the state moves through Phase 2 of reopening. As a result, many business remain closed or at limited capacity, and cities, towns, and venues are continuing to cancel scheduled events.

Sporting Events That Have Been Canceled or Postponed:
- The ACC Tournement has been canceled.
- The SEC has canceled all sports until March 30.
- The Big Ten, Big 12, Big East, and Pac-12 has canceled tournaments.
- The NBA has suspended its season.
- Major League Soccer has shut down for 30 days.
- The NHL has paused games effective immediately.
- NCHSAA has suspended all high school athletics until April 6.
- Mexican National Team's 2020 U.S. Tour games scheduled for March in Charlotte and Arlington have been canceled.
- MLB opening day has been postponed by two weeks.
- The Americas Olympic Baseball Qualifier has been postponed.
- The Masters has been postponed.
- The Boston Marathon has been postponed until September 14.
- NASCAR has postponed the next two races, including this weekend's race in Atlanta.

- The May 2 Komen Triangle Race for the Cure scheduled has been rescheduled for September 12.
- Garth Brooks concert at Bank of America Stadium scheduled for May 2 will be postponed until June 13

- City of Raleigh has decided not to plant the Dix Park Sunflower Field this year.
- Town of Garner cancels its traditional July 3rd Independence Day Celebration.
- Town of Cary cancels Independence Day celebrations, June and July events and meetings, and August camps.
- Fayetteville/Cumberland County has postponed the International Folk Festival, originally slated for September 25-27, 2020
- Wilmington says July 4th fireworks celebration downtown is being postponed to a date to be determined.
- The Town of Cary has canceled its 44th annual Lazy Daze Festival. The two-day event was scheduled for the weekend of August 22-23 at Cary’s Town Hall Campus on Academy Street.
- Durham Bulls and Durham Parks and Recreation have canceled Durham’s Annual July 4th Celebration to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
- The Town of Fort Mill, SC has canceled its July 3 celebration. Will host a weeklong celebration of virtual events instead.
- Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden has rescheduled its popular Chinese Lantern Festival, originally scheduled for Aug. 28 through Oct. 18, to Oct. 15 through Jan. 3 due to the effects of Covid-19.
- The N.C. Mountain State Fair will not be held in 2020. The fair was scheduled to take place Sept. 11 through 20.
- 71st Annual Benson Mule Days postponed. Mule Days will return to Benson during the fourth week of September 2021.
- Cabarrus County has announced the cancellation of the 2020 Cabarrus County Fair. The event was scheduled for September 11-19.
- Due to the COVID-19 Premier Fine Art & Craft Festivals has decided to cancel all of 2020 fall shows, including the 40th annual Christmas Made in the South Festival held each year at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center.
- Wake Forest cancels all Town-sponsored events, including those at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, at least through October due to COVID-19.
- The Town of Davidson has canceled all remaining Concerts on the Green and Concerts at the Circle, including August 2 - 20 Ride, August 15 - Chunky Daddy, August 23 - Gospelfest, September 6 - The Legacy Motown Revue, September 19 - L.A. Maybe, September 20 - The Davidson College Symphony & Jazz Ensemble, October 17 - Rusty Knox/Carolina Soul Band, as well as National Night Out - August 4, Davidson Connections- August 6, and Davidson Connections - September 3.
- The Mush, Music & Mutts Festival announced that in the interest of safety for our community and visitors, as well as our vendors, volunteers and staff, the 2020 Mush, Music & Mutts Festival is canceled.
- The Gaston County Parks and Recreation Department announced it is canceling the popular Cotton Ginning Days Festival this fall due to the continued impacts of COVID-19.
- The 2020 Selby Hamfest, a "Labor Day Tradition" since 1957, has been canceled due to the pandemic.
- The Town of Fuquay-Varina is cancelling the following events due to continuing concerns over COVID: September 11 Day of Service and Remembrance; The Fall Follow Me 2 Fuquay Concert Series; Celebrate Fuquay-Varina Festival; Fire Department Open House; The National Night Out Against Crime
- The Carousel Center (TCC) has announced the cancellation of Voracious & Rare Festival on October 23 at the Battleship North Carolina and the Beer & Wine Festival on October 24th at Marina Grill.
University Closings:
- Duke University has switched to online classes and has extended spring break.
- UNC System has switched to online classes and has extended spring break.
- UNC has also canceled all 2020 spring and summer study abroad programs.
- UNCC commencement postponed.

- N.C. State has switched to online classes and has extended spring break.

School District Closings:
- All NC K-12 public schools will be closed until May 15.
Restaurants and Malls:
- On March 17, Governor Cooper ordered all restaurants and bars to close for dine-in customers. Takeout and delviery orders can still continue.
- Simon Properties has closed all U.S. locations until March 29.
Closed Public Spaces:
- Wrightsville Beach has closed beach strand and soundside beaches to residents and visitors until March 31 or otherwise lifted.
- Emerald Isle has suspended beach driving as of 9 p.m. March 20.
- Atlantic Beach has closed public parking areas and public restrooms as of 4:30 p.m. March 20.
- Town of Carolina Beach has closed beach access effective immediately.
- All national forest campgrounds in North Carolina will close March 23
- On March 23, Governor Cooper ordered the closing of all nail and hail salons, barbershops, massage therapists, sweepstakes parlors, health clubs, gyms, and movie-theaters.
- Carteret County announced on March 23 that all playground areas as well as park bathrooms will temporarily close.
- Town of Oak Island closes all beaches and parks effective March 24.
- 14 miles of Blue Ridge Parkway closed
- National Forests in North Carolina temporarily shutting down all recreation facilities
- Oak Island is closing all beaches, right-of-way parking, street-end access, and parks and recreation facilities.
- Mecklenburg County closes all sports courts in county parks until further notice.
- Twenty five state parks have been shut down due to coronavirus concerns.
