1. North Carolina auto insurance rates are going up 5% on average in settlement

North Carolina automobile insurance rates are poised to increase statewide by a 5% average this fall as part of an agreement reached between state regulators and the insurance industry. The settlement announced on Monday by Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is lower than the average 22.6% rate increase for private passenger vehicles that had been originally requested in February.

2. College sports commissioners laud $2.8B antitrust settlement, call for Congress to act

Conference commissioners lauded a judge's approval of a $2.8 billion antitrust lawsuit settlement as a means for bringing stability and fairness to an out-of-control college athletics industry but acknowledged there would be growing pains in implementing its terms.

3. Groups want to distribute flyers with immigration resources in Charlotte school

The Charlotte East Language Academy Parent Teacher Association and community organizations requested the school board to allow them to distribute flyers with immigration resources on school grounds. Last month, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made arrests near CELA. According to ICE, it arrested Adrian Ojeda-Calvillo, who it said is undocumented and has an extensive criminal history, as part of this enforcement action on May 12. 

4. Last man standing: Final team from the Carolinas seeks to win it all in College World Series

The NCAA baseball tournament is going to Omaha as eight teams from around the country look to win it all. When regionals started, the Carolinas were represented by eight schools. On Monday, Coastal Carolina University became the only survivor when Duke fell 5-4 to Murray State in Game 3 of the super regionals.
