Charles Duncan is a former newspaper reporter and editor. He returned to North Carolina to join Spectrum News 1 after reporting for the daily paper in the Cayman Islands and working as the managing editor for The Sun News in Myrtle Beach and as a national reporter for McClatchy newspapers.

Charles has a long history with North Carolina, including degrees from Wake Tech, N.C. State and Duke. He even spent some time at UNC Chapel Hill while studying for his master’s degree. His work has appeared around the state and the world, with bylines in The News & Observer, The Charlotte Observer, the Miami Herald, NPR, North Carolina Public Radio, the Agence France Presse and many other news outlets.

For six years, Charles served as the founding editor and executive director of Raleigh Public Record, a nonprofit news site dedicated to local politics in Raleigh.

A natural beach bum, Charles enjoys scuba diving and surfing. He is fiercely loyal to Eastern North Carolina barbecue. In fact, Wilber’s Barbecue in Goldsboro has been the official Duncan family barbecue for three generations.
