Good morning, North Carolina! Here's what you need to know today.

A Helene-related survey in western North Carolina was not conducted after federal cuts last week.
Buncombe County had been working for four months on a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention needs assessment often used after large-scale disasters. The county learned last week, however, that the staff providing support and expertise to conduct the survey were no longer employed.

Your Weather Planner

Gusty winds will keep temperatures in the 50s and 60s at the coolest point of the morning. We'll then see highs from the 50s in the mountains to the lower 80s at the coast in the afternoon as rain that moved in overnight gradually becomes more widespread. A marginal risk for severe weather will continue through the afternoon and into the evening with showers and storms tapering off at the coast at night.
