Showers to the south will gradually travel north, bringing a wet start to the day over the southern parts of the state. Under cloudy skies, temperatures will fall to the 30s and 40s by sunrise. Rain will continue to spread farther north into the afternoon. Areas near the border with Virginia may see little to no measurable rainfall while southern parts of the state, especially the coastal plain, could see up to an inch and a half. Temperatures will peak in the 50s to lower 60s in the afternoon, with warmer weather and clearer skies coming Tuesday.

When officers who were serving warrants Friday evening encountered a suspect, there was an exchange of gunfire, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said. The suspect was declared dead at the scene, and the two wounded officers later were released from hospital.
