North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Gov.-elect Josh Stein are in Washington this week meeting with members of Congress to push for billions of dollars in aid following Helene’s devastation in western North Carolina.

The family of a man shot and killed earlier this week describes him as a someone with a “loving spirit" who "prided himself in working hard to provide for his family.” Anthony Zellars Jr., 29, was shot and killed Tuesday morning around 10:45, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives.
