Good morning, North Carolina! Here's what you need to know today.

Congress is set to return this week after an election that is bringing a big change in the balance of power in Washington. Senate Republicans are readying to chair committees and control the upper chamber’s agenda after securing a majority, the size of which has yet to be determined as ballots are still being counted in two states. The House has yet to be called for either party, but the GOP has a solid chance at keeping an edge in the lower chamber, bringing the potential for complete Republican control in Washington after former President Donald Trump also secured the presidency last week.

Your Weather Planner

We'll end up in just the 50s and 60s by sunrise – temperatures more typical for mornings in late September — after light overnight rain. Under cloudy skies, we'll see light, scattered showers in the morning, but drier weather is expected in the afternoon. A cold front will come through tonight, so we could still end up in the 70s to near 80 at the warmest point of the afternoon. Clearer skies and cooler weather will come in toward the middle of the week.
