The Big Story

Man dies days after exchanging gunfire with police at Concord Mills Mall

A 23-year-old man died over the weekend, days after he was shot by police in a construction site inside Concord Mills Mall, according to the Concord Police Department.

Police say Dominic Jeter, of Charlotte, and two others, ran from police as officers were looking for suspects accused of stealing credit cards.

The foot chase went through the popular mall and into a construction site for a new store. Jeter fired a handgun several times at the officers, who then shot him, according to police.

Your Weather Planner

A cool front will continue to slip southward early Wednesday and then stall off the coast.

Meanwhile, an upper-level trough to our west will send some energy our way Wednesday. Overall, shower chances will decrease, but there will be some scattered around, especially in the coastal plain.

Slightly cooler and drier air is expected to filter into the state from Virginia Thursday and Friday, thus reducing rain chances from north to south. That moisture suppressed to our south will make a run at the state again over the weekend with shower and storm chances increasing during that time.

Also, distant tropical cyclone Earl will continue to keep the rip current risk elevated along the coast into the weekend.
