1. Stocks make wild swings as markets try to assess potential damage from Trump's trade war
The S&P 500 was down 1.4% in midday trading, coming off its worst week since COVID began crashing the global economy in March 2020. The index, which sits at the heart of many investors' 401(k) accounts, has lost nearly 20% since setting a record less than two months ago.

This comes as the race for a seat on the court between Republican Jefferson Griffin and Democratic incumbent Allison Riggs remains undecided.
4. NASCAR team owner and Mooresville native, Shigeaki Hattori dies in highway crash
Hattori's NASCAR career started when he was first a driver and then later as team owner. After racing in both IndyCar and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, he transitioned to team ownership.
5. Walk to School Day: Belmont community works to get students to school safely
The Belmont Police Department joined them in holding a Walk to School Day on Friday to raise awareness about the need “for improved pedestrian infrastructure near schools.”
