State officials confirmed 95 deaths over 21 counties from Helene, and 26 are still unaccounted for. What was once 1,200 road closures is now 500, but estimates to repair damages are around $5 billion. Nearly 750 people were rescued by National Guard members.

The assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally in July was "preventable and should not have happened," according to a bipartisan House panel that is investigating the shooting and what it calls the "stunning security failures" at the event.
4. White House proposes rule to expand contraceptive access
The Biden-Harris administration on Monday proposed a dramatic expansion of contraception coverage. The proposed rule would require that insurers cover the cost of over-the-counter birth control, including condoms and the nonprescription birth control pill Opill.
