Good evening, North Carolina. We’re wrapping up the day for you with the most important stories you need to know and your weather outlook.

Your Weather Planner

Tonight, North Carolina is setting up for one of the coldest nights of the season as Arctic air plunges into the state.

Under clearing skies, winds will pick as the cold air spills in over the mountains tonight. Temperatures will dip into the single digits in the mountains, with teens and 20s across the rest of the state. Wind chills will be dangerously cold, with values dropping to as low as -20 degrees in the higher elevations. Elsewhere, wind chill values will dip into the single digits in the western piedmont, and in the ‘teens’ toward the coast.

Sunshine will be plentiful on Wednesday, but it will stay frigid, with highs in the 20s in the mountains, and 30s and lower 40s farther east. A slow warming trend takes hold later in the week before another Arctic blast arrives this coming weekend.
