1. A third of N.C. school districts have reversed course to require masks

As of Tuesday, 89 of North Carolina’s 115 school districts require masks indoors, following guidelines from the state Department of Health and Human Services. That means the vast majority of K-12 students in public schools are now under mask mandates.

2. Teen informs peers about e-cigarette use following JUUL lawsuit in N.C.

JUUL reached a $40 million settlement with the state of North Carolina in July after the e-cigarrete giant was accused of false marketing and marketing towards kids. One teen advocate says she’s working to teach her peers safe practices.

3. Sixth-generation farmer loses entire crop due to Fred impacts

Bill Holbrook is the latest in a long line – six generations worth – of farmers at Cold Mountain Farm. Tropical Storm Fred drowned his entire crop last week, evoking memories of the 2004 hurricane season.

4. Officials: Durham woman dies after 90-foot fall at Pilot Mountain

Emergency workers say the woman was close to the knob of Pilot Mountain when she fell Monday afternoon.

Flood damages Haywood County school's sports fields

Pisgah High School has lost all of its sports fields due to flood damage caused by Tropical Storm Fred, according to school officials. The school's football field, which just had its turf replaced last year, was damaged extensively.
