Front-line officers with the Charlotte-Meckleburg Police Department have a question before them: whether or not they think Chief Johnny Jennings is the right leader for the job.
That's the question members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 9 are asking. The organization is holding a vote this week on whether or not they have confidence in the police chief. More than 2,000 members of the organization received an email noting that there was a motion passed to hold a vote of no confidence for Jennings.

A fire Saturday night at a north Charlotte Harris Teeter was intentionally set, Charlotte Fire Department officials said Sunday. The fire happened at the store on Davis Lake Parkway near West W.T. Harris Boulevard. 

2. Lansing Fire Department uses $200K loan to buy new truck

The Lansing Fire Department has received many donations to help it do its jobs after Helene. Blue Ridge Energy gave the department a $200,000 loan to purchase a new fire truck. A second truck was also destroyed, but that one was replaced with a donation from another state.

3. Shelter in Boone grapples with surge in food and housing needs

Hospitality House Northwest helps people in need in Watauga, Wilkes, Ashe, Avery, Alleghany, Mitchell and Yancey counties. Many in the service area were impacted by Helene. Since Helene, the food and housing demand at their Boone location has skyrocketed.

Editor's Pick - New black Lab continues tradition of entertaining Grasshoppers baseball crowds

The Greensboro Grasshoppers started a tradition in 2006 with Miss Babe Ruth, a Labrador retriever that did a lot on the field, including taking baseballs to the umpire and fetching bats. Almost 20 years later, Miss Willie Mae Mays has stepped into the role and entertains the crowds at First National Bank Field in downtown Greensboro. The 5-year-old is the sixth black Lab to take on the job.
