The weather was still active on Monday for parts of North Carolina after Sunday’s latest round of severe weather. Some areas in the mountains saw a little snow. Central and eastern North Carolina experienced some small hail in certain areas.

Calmer weather lies ahead for the next few days. Skies will clear tonight with cooler temperatures. Sunshine is in the forecast Tuesday with warmer daytime highs. More nice weather is on the way for Wednesday.

A shower chance returns to the forecast by Thursday.

1. Two EF1 tornadoes touched down in eastern N.C. Sunday, officials say

The tornadoes hit Sunday in Pender and Perquimans counties, both near the coast, officials said. The severe weather over the weekend spawned tornadoes, dust storms and wildfires as it moved across the Midwest and Southeast, killing 39.

2. N.C. service member injured in action joins UNC athletes in giving back

United States Navy Reserve Master Chief Roger Dasilva was seriously injured, completely severing his quad muscle in his leg in September, and a nonprofit helped him through it. He recently volunteered to help others, spending his time helping build cribs and making care packages for veterans.

3. Trump claims Biden's pardons of Jan. 6 committee members are 'void' due to use of autopen

Just before leaving office, Biden issued a statement defending the pardons, saying, "alarmingly, public servants have been subjected to ongoing threats and intimidation for faithfully discharging their duties. In certain cases, some have even been threatened with criminal prosecutions."

Retired political reporter Rob Christensen talks about his new book, "Southern News, Southern Politics," which tells the story of the Raleigh newspaper and its impact on North Carolina’s political history.

After nine months onboard the International Space Station, NASA astronauts Cmdr. Barry "Butch" Wilmore and pilot Sunita "Suni" Williams are finally on their way home to Earth, along with the Crew-9 members.
