The Gates Police Department will have extra patrols out on the road this weekend. Officers are hoping there will be no bar brawls in their town, specifically at one particular event Saturday evening.

The town has already experienced a massive bar fight and authorities say they aren’t pulling any punches in the effort to make sure there are no repeats.

"We’re definitely taking this one seriously. There’s some inclination that the promoters are the same between that one and this event that occurred this weekend," says Lt. Robert Long, Gates Police Department.

Lt. Long is talking about the event scheduled to take place at the Ramada Inn on Saturday. Police say it's hosted by the same promoter of last weekend’s gathering at Schramrocks Irish Pub in Henrietta, where a massive bar fight took place that spilled into the parking lot, leading to three stabbings and firefighters fearing for their safety when they responded to a call for overcrowding.

Preparations have been underway all week, as Gates Police officials have met with the promoter, the establishment’s management, the fire marshal and the security team.

"I personally spoke with the security director to set up a plan in place to see what their plan is to keep everybody safe there," said Long.

This takes place after the massive brawl at the Diplomat Banquet facility in January that led to injuries and arrests, including this week’s arrest of the Diplomat’s manager. Police say they did not have notification about the event planned at the Diplomat, but this time, it’s different.

"We’re also gonna patrol the parking lots, we’ll go through if we see a large crowd gathering there," said Long.

All patrons of the event will have their drivers licenses scanned at the door.

"They’re gonna be scanned into an app that the promoter now has that will keep track of who’s coming, what time they’re entering the building and then subsequently he can scan them out," said Long.

Gates Police welcomes parties, concerts and other events in their town, but say any dangerous activity is not welcome.

"We’re out there, we have a good team in place for this event, and we want this to go off without a hitch,” said Long.
