Two men have been arrested following a brawl and shooting at the Diplomat Banquet Center on Lyell Avenue last weekend.

Yamil Maldonado, 39, is charged with reckless endangerment in the first-degree and two counts of criminal posession of a weapon in the second-degree.

Issac Dominguez-Gomez, 26, is charged with riot in the second-degree and disorderly conduct.

Gates Police were called to the venue shortly before 2 a.m. for the report of a shooting. Police say Maldonado fired at least five shots during the fight, but no one was hit.

During the incident, some attendees took over the bar and began throwing bottles. A 26-year-old woman was hit in the head and taken to the hospital.

According to police, a 22-year-old man was knocked unconscious during a fist fight. He was also taken to the hospital. Police say he is not cooperating with the investigation.

Multiple agencies including Rochester Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff's Office and Gates Fire Department were called to the scene to help manage crowds.

A witness tells Spectrum News that she and her mom hid in a car during the incident. Both are employees at the Diplomat House and were called back inside for questioning.

"As soon as I got back in the main room, I saw blood. It was completely filled with pepper spray so I couldn't even breathe," said Briana Magro, a bartender at the Diplomat House. "It was pretty scary."

Part of Lyell Avenue near 390 was also shut down during the investigation.

“So I look over and I see people throwing tables and chairs and then I see a female screaming," Magro said. "Her friend is completely unconscious laying at one of the tables and the other lady was throwing ice over her head saying 'Wake up honey, it’s OK, stay with me' so I ran over there and the other girl started running because everyone was yelling shots fired, shot fired.”

Latin artist Darell was scheduled to perform at the Diplomat Saturday night, according to a post on his Instagram account. There is no word on what/if any impact the fight had on the planned performance.

Investigators say they were not made aware of the event and producers of the show did not have proper security.

"They didn't have enough security staff there. That's what our investigation is showing. They also didn't follow proper protocol in checking people's bags for weapons," said Gates Police Chief Jim VanBrederode. "It's only by an act of God that nobody got shot."

Authorities have extensive security video of the event.

"We are gonna enforce every law possible to make a statement to the community and those people who came out and acted like thugs: this behavior is not going to be tolerated," he continued.

The owner of the Diplomat and the promoter of the event would not comment about the violence that broke out.
