Good morning, North Carolina! Here's what you need to know today.

The Big Story

Education study shows local funding disparity between N.C. counties

A recent local school finance study shows a major funding disparity in schools between North Carolina's wealthiest counties and our more rural ones.

The study by the Public School Forum of North Carolina tracks public education spending across the state's 100 counties for more than 30 years.

In the 2021-22 school year, the 10 highest-spending counties spent more than four times the amount of money per child than the 10 lowest-spending counties. This is despite the fact that the 10 poorest counties tax themselves at a higher rate to keep up with school costs.

Showers are possible in the morning in the west, while the central region will see an increase in clouds with a few showers possible in the afternoon. The coast should stay fair and dry with the showers holding off until night.

The weekend looks good with mild temperatures continuing and plenty of sunshine. A dry cold front will cross the state Sunday and bring in colder air for the workweek that could include a couple of frosty mornings.
