Good morning, North Carolina! Here's what you need to know today.

The Big Story

AI election interference: Scam calls are illegal in N.C., attorney general says

Before the New Hampshire primary, some voters in the Granite State started getting robocalls with the voice of President Joe Biden. The president wasn't calling to get voters to the polls, it was the opposite. An AI-generated recording that sounded like Biden was trying to keep people home on Election Day.

Investigators say they have figured out some of the companies responsible for sending out those calls. Federal regulators say fake calls like the one in New Hampshire could be illegal election interference.

In North Carolina, AI-generated election calls could violate the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Truth in Caller ID Act and state consumer protection laws, according to Attorney General Josh Stein.

Your Weather Planner

The storm system responsible for the strong winds along the coast will slowly push farther out to sea as high pressure builds in over the state the next couple of days. Therefore, windy conditions along the coast will gradually decrease over the next couple of days.

Some coastal flooding and beach erosion are still possible through Wednesday, though. Elsewhere, conditions will remain quiet.

Wednesday looks to be a bright day with less of a breeze inland and seasonably cool temperatures in the 50s with 40s along the Outer Banks.
