Good morning, North Carolina! Here's what you need to know today.

The Big Story

'I think about him often': Family preserves George Floyd's legacy by giving back

George Floyd was born in Fayetteville. Three years later and 1,200 miles southeast of the Twin Cities where Floyd died three years ago, Floyd’s North Carolina family carries his name forward with a new passion: The Floyd Family Center for Social Equity.

The family says they are laser-focused on turning the pain of his gruesome killing into something that can help the world.

Leaders say turning hurt into hope will be at the heart and soul of the Floyd Family Center.

Your Weather Planner

We're keeping our eyes on a very wet-looking weekend across the state, but we'll have one more mostly dry day to wrap up the week.

We'll also feel another round of cool temperatures to start Friday with lows in the low to mid-50s. Some 40s are possible in the mountains and a few spots near 60 along the coast.

The afternoon will be cloudy, breezy and cool again. We'll probably see temperatures take a bigger dip for afternoon highs as winds pick up out of the northeast. Pretty much the whole state will feel temperatures in the upper 60s to low and mid-70s, well below late-May averages.

Rain chances pick up across the southeast coast Friday night. Get ready for a soggy Saturday as we kick off an unsettled Memorial Day weekend.

During the South Park fire in Charlotte last week, many firefighters showed up to bravely fight the flames. But those stories can spark memories for other firefighters who have experienced similar calls in the past. A.C. Rich has seen many fires through the years as a firefighter and battalion chief, and remembers one massive blaze in particular. “Firefighters have to be very prepared to adapt,” Rich said. “And that adaptability, I think, is at the heart and soul of every firefighter.”
