Good morning, North Carolina! Here's what you need to know today.

The Big Story

Now in charge of House, Republicans expected to investigate Hunter Biden, more

Knowing history was on their side, Republicans in the House spent months vowing to turn their grievances about the Biden administration into investigations if they regained control of the chamber. Conservatives will soon be able to deliver on those promises.

More than a week after Election Day, Republicans secured the 218th seat needed to flip the House from Democratic control. The full scope of the party’s majority may not be clear for several more days — or weeks — as votes in competitive races are still being counted.

Your Weather Planner

As a surface high settles over the region, northerly flow will continue and cooler temperatures for the morning and afternoon will result. Any leftover clouds will move out and temperatures will drop to the low and mid-20s in the mountains and foothills, upper 20s to low and mid-30s in the Piedmont and upper 30s to low 40s across the coastal plain.

A little wind and cooler-than-average temperatures will be the story for this afternoon with tons of sunshine in store. Higher elevations will stay in the 30s while most of the mountain region all the way over to the Piedmont will see temperatures in the 40s. The Sandhills to the coast will likely see high temperatures in the low to mid-50s.

Temperatures tick up slightly as we close out the week Friday.
