Wednesday will be slightly warmer as a cold front moves in from the west, bringing showers to the mountains, ending Wednesday night. The front will work its way across the state Wednesday night with a few showers. The weekend will be colder as a front moves through, bringing lower temperatures.

Officially, winter begins Saturday morning, and you’ll feel the chill.

1. Officials: 3 dead, 6 injured in shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison

The suspected shooter, who was a student at the school, is deceased, according to police. Madison police previously erroneously said that five people were deceased and five were injured during a press conference.

2. 'I like to help people': Burnsville woman sets up relief center to help neighbors affected by Helen

Helene uprooted lives, homes and left many western North Carolina communities cut off. One former business owner saw a need for help and has stepped up to help her community once again, opening up a nearby relief center. 

3. Wake Forest football Coach Clawson steps down after 11 seasons

According to a statement from the university, Clawson will serve as an advisor to the school's athletics department. Clawson was 67-69 at Wake Forest from 2014-24, including seven consecutive bowl appearances from 2016-22.

4. Trump announces $100B SoftBank investment in U.S.

In a post on his Truth Social site Tuesday, Trump said anyone making a $1 billion investment in the United States "will receive fully expedited approvals and permits, including, but in no way limited to, all Environmental approvals."
