A weak cold front will get pushed near the coastline Tuesday and bring a short break from our recently unsettled weather. We'll have a mix of sun and clouds through the day Tuesday, with afternoon highs in the 70s to low 80s. There is a possibility for an isolated shower or storm.

Wednesday will be similar but high temperatures will be a couple of degrees warmer. Rain chances return to the forecast late Thursday and through the day Friday.

1. Escaped eastern North Carolina inmate still on the lam

Authorities are still looking for Francisco Cardenas, 32, who escaped Hyde Correctional Center in Swan Quarter on Thursday.

2. Black bear sightings in rural, urban areas slowly rising

You could see more bears out and about as we inch toward summer. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said there’s an increase in bear sightings in rural and urban areas.

3. Real ID deadline arrives Wednesday for millions of North Carolinians

Wednesday marks the first day the Real ID Act will be in effect across the country. The law requires federal agencies to view a Real ID, U.S. passport or other federally approved identification to board commercial flights and enter secure federal buildings, such as a federal courthouse. 

4. Settle in and get ready: 'Ultracompetitive' 2nd round of NHL playoffs is here

The second round of the NHL playoffs begins Monday night, after no sweeps and two series going the distance to get to this point. Washington plays Carolina on Tuesday night in a series that has the potential to be must-see entertainment.

5. Trump administration says it'll pay immigrants illegally in U.S. $1,000 to leave 

The Department of Homeland Security says that it's also paying for travel assistance and that those who use an app called CBP Home to tell the government that they plan to return home will be "deprioritized" for detention and removal.
