Psychedelic drugs are generally thought of as illegal, recreational drugs, but physicians and scientists across the country are exploring their medical benefits.
New studies are underway at UNC Chapel Hill and now legislation in the North Carolina General Assembly is exploring the possibility of using psychedelic treatments for mental health across the state.
The process is already seeing results for patients in Charlotte.

Widespread rain turns scattered through early Wednesday morning. A few isolated storms may develop across south and southeastern North Carolina during that time. We'll keep an isolated storm chance in play through the first half of Wednesday. 

Much of Wednesday should end up dry, but scattered afternoon storms are now expected for Thursday and Friday. Some of those storms, especially Friday, could be strong.

Wednesday will be the beginning of a warming trend. Expect a daily bump up in temperatures through the end of the week.

We'll enjoy a much drier and warm weekend with only an isolated late-day storm chance on Saturday.

1. Justice Department accuses N.C. of failing to keep accurate election records

The Trump administration on Tuesday accused North Carolina's election board of violating federal law by failing to ensure voter registration records of some applicants contained identifying numbers. The Justice Department sued in federal court also asking a judge to force board officials to create a prompt method to obtain such numbers.

2. Iranian pleads guilty in N.C. court to ransomware attacks that affected Greenville, Baltimore

Sina Gholinejad, 37, pleaded guilty in federal court for his role in a ransomware and extortion operation that targeted cities, federal authorities say. Gholinejad and others attacked networks of Greenville, North Carolina, Baltimore and other cities, the U.S. Justice Department says. Sentencing for Gholinejad is set for August.

3. 'Essential step': Historically Black college in N.C. making strides toward accreditation

Barber-Scotia College is reaching milestones with its rebuilding efforts since losing accreditation in 2004. The college announced it's secured comprehensive liability insurance for the first time in years. Leaders say this represents a huge step toward sustainability and accreditation.

Wing and DoorDash have launched Charlotte’s first-ever drone food delivery program. DoorDash users who live within four miles of the Arboretum Shopping Center can utilize the service. Drone deliveries have also popped up in other parts of North Carolina.
