1. North Carolina auto insurance rates are going up 5% on average in settlement
North Carolina automobile insurance rates are poised to increase statewide by a 5% average this fall as part of an agreement reached between state regulators and the insurance industry. The settlement announced on Monday by Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is lower than the average 22.6% rate increase for private passenger vehicles that had been originally requested in February.
2. Manufacturing facility for raw medical materials opens in Gaston County
Premix Inc. held a grand opening for its new manufacturing for plastic resin in Dallas, N.C. on Tuesday. The plant will produce raw materials for diagnostic testing supplies, electronic packaging and the energy sector. It’s funded by a $80 million investment from the Department of Defense and Department of Health and Human Services, approved under the Biden administration.
3. Foscoe volunteers hope to continue Helene donations permanently
Days after Helene hit, several donation sites opened in every county in the mountain region. Since then, however, most, if not all have closed down. One site doesn't want to join that list and just signed a two-year lease so it can keep the donations coming to the people who need them most.
