North Carolina Republican Rep. Madison Cawthorn is facing several charges after being pulled over by the state highway patrol three times since October.
The highway patrol last pulled over the 26-year-old congressman on March 3 at about 10:30 p.m., SHP spokesman Sgt. Chritopher Knox said. He said Cawthorn was driving a 2019 Toyota and got a ticket for a "left of center violation" on Highway 74B in Cleveland County, south of Asheville.
"During the course of the investigation it was determined that the driver's license was in a state of revocation, and he was subsequently charged with driving while license revoked," Knox said in an email to Spectrum News 1.
Police pulled Cawthorn over driving a 2009 Dodge on Jan. 8 at about 6:30 p.m. in Polk County, Knox said.
"The driver was identified as David Madison Cawthorn, 26 years old of Hendersonville, N.C. Mr. Cawthorn was charged with speeding 87 mph in a 70 mph zone," he said.
Cawthorn was cited for speeding on Oct. 18, 2021, Knox said. Cawthorn was driving 89 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 40 in Buncombe County, he said.
"Our office expects the traffic matters to be resolved quickly and we remain focused on serving the constituents of NC-11," a spokesperson from the Office of Madison Cawthorn said.
Cawthorn is the youngest member of Congress. He has become a divisive figure in western North Carolina and the halls of Congress, branding himself as a Trump loyalist and making regular appearances in conservative media.
