Reuben Jones may be a Virginia native, but he grew up going to the Outer Banks and was ultimately drawn to the friendly people, pleasant weather, and rapid growth of the Charlotte community. Reuben joined Spectrum News in June of 2017 and is energized by meeting people he likely wouldn’t meet if he weren’t a reporter. Telling original stories that result in positive changes and shining a light on people doing great things in the area is what inspires him to come to work every day.
Reuben is an Emmy winner for his work reporting on the impact of testing untested rape kits in North Carolina. When asked about the most meaningful story he’s ever covered, Reuben recalls the bravery of two women he interviewed who spoke about being sexually assaulted in Charlotte by a man 25 years apart. The man had recently been arrested because CMPD tested the sexual assault kits and DNA technology confirmed his involvement in eight cases. This story underlined the impact of testing sexual assault kits.
When he’s not at work, you can find Reuben playing tennis or golf, running along the greenway, trying new restaurants, and rooting on his favorite college basketball teams (go George Mason Patriots and UVA Hoos!). Reuben is always looking for story ideas so feel free and let him know if you have any.
