CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Anyone who has been to or seen recent protests knows they are not made for social distancing.
"Clearly, if you have thousands of people that are already ignited and emotionally charged, they're not thinking about the six feet of social distancing," Charlotte NAACP President Corine Mack says.
While many protesters have worn masks and sanitized, it's hard to truly stay apart.
"I am concerned. I want people to remember while we are advocating for justice that we have to ensure we safeguard ourselves and everyone else around us," Mack says.
"We know mass gatherings like a protest or others are places where people might have been exposed," NCDHHS Sec. Mandy Cohen says.
Cohen says it's why people who were at a protest, and may not even have symptoms, should get tested.
Gov. Roy Cooper, who briefly interacted with protesters, says he will be getting tested.
"Since I was out there, I think it's important I have the test, which I'm going to have today," Cooper stated.
However, some places have taken things a step further.
Cooper says there are many testing sites for protesters to go, in particular pointing to a website that offers 400 sites.
Mack says it will come down to people being responsible for their health.
"[I] don't want anyone to believe that because we are in a pandemic, we should not fight," Mack says. "We should find ways to fight safely and that's what we are going to continue doing."
