The two officers were approaching two men in the 200 block of West Evergreen Street when the 9-year police veterans immediately were fired upon.
The department shared a beautiful video in memory of its comrade:
Moreno and Cavazos were shot as they exited their patrol vehicle. The officers returned fire and hit shooter Andrew Bice in his lower body. Bice also managed to shoot himself in the melee and died later at University Hospital.
Bice shot Moreno in the head and Cavazos was shot in the chin.
In January, Moreno was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart in a special ceremony at Lila Cockrell Theatre.
