A San Antonio police officer who was wounded during Thursday's shootout is recovering in the hospital.

SAPD officials say Officer Julio Cavazos underwent surgery at SAMMC and is in intensive care. Sgt. Jesse Salame says Cavazos is facing a long recovery.

On Friday, Officer Miguel Moreno died after he was shot in the head. Moreno was a nine year veteran of the force. He's survived by his parents and four siblings.

The gunman, identified as Andrew Bice, died after turning the gun on himself.

The officers were looking into reports of car burglaries just north of downtown when Bice opened fire.

Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the Texas flags in San Antonio to be lowered to half-staff through July 3.
