Irondequoit Town Supervisor Andrae Evans is responding to a petition filed by the Monroe County District Attorney to remove him from office.
The petition, filed by Sandra Doorley last week, is set to be heard by the New York State Appellate Division of the Supreme Court this fall. It was filed after Evans refused to resign following the release of a report and an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation against a former employee.
The town board also voted to censure Evans amid the allegations.
Evans sent a response denying the allegations in the petition, saying:
"Let me be clear, I categorically deny the allegations in the petition. I have not violated any anti-harassment or sexual harassment policies. I have not retaliated or intimidated anyone. The cornerstone of my administration is to have everyone treated with dignity and respect.
"As I have previously stated: 'When I ran for public office, I was warned that at some point, someone would attack my reputation for political purposes. I look forward to addressing this matter in more detail at the appropriate time.'
"This attempt to remove me from the office is unfounded and absurd. No criminal charges have been filed. I remain focused on the work and progress we've achieved together. During my time as town supervisor, Irondequoit has experienced historic accomplishments across economic development, public investment and community well-being."
Evans has since sued the town board. In the lawsuit, Evans claims the board acted unlawfully and outside its authority. He is seeking a temporary restraining order to pause the resolution until a hearing is scheduled.
