Dennis Drue, the man imprisoned for killing Shenendehowa High School students Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers and injuring two others in a crash on the Northway in Halfmoon in 2012, has been released after serving nearly 9 1/2 years.

In 2013, Drue pleaded guilty to all the counts against him, including vehicular homicide and DWI, stemming from the Dec. 1, 2012 crash that killed Stewart and Rivers, and seriously injured their friends Bailey Wind and Matt Hardy.

DOCCS records indicate Drue, now 32, is now out of prison.

Drue was most recently denied parole last year, and given two more years in prison, the maximum allowable by the state parole board. He had been sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison for the crash, and had previously been denied parole in 2018 and 2020.

All four teenagers were headed to a sleepover in 2012, driving near the Twin Bridges, when they were struck by Drue.
