Parole has been denied for Dennis Drue, who admitted being intoxicated in December 2012, when he caused a crash on the Northway that left two Shenendehowa High School students dead.

Drue is serving 5 to 15 years in prison for the crash that killed Deanna Rivers and Chris Stewart, while seriously injuring Bailey Wind and Matt Hardy. All four teenagers were headed to a sleepover, driving near the Twin Bridges when they were struck by Drue.

Drue pleaded guilty to the charges a year later, and if he serves the maximum sentence, he will be in prison until 2028.

The Stewart and Rivers families joined together complie a petition that was signed more than 11,000 times. The petition was presented to the parole board to try to sway their decision for denying Drue's parole.

Christopher's parents say the support from the community is overhwleming.

"It was like a kiss on the cheek from Chris and Deanna saying we're still here and the community is here behind us, and the community is still outraged over this," said Regina, Christopher's mother.

Drue next parole hearing isn't scheduled until July 2020. Stewart's parents say they will fight to keep Drue in jail for his maximum sentence.
