Marshall Keely covers North Carolina politics at Spectrum News 1 in Raleigh.

Marshall brings politics from the Capitol building to your front door, breaking down the impact of decisions at the state level and holding lawmakers accountable. You can find his reports on Capitol Tonight weeknights at 7 p.m.

A Maryland native, Marshall grew up on a farm just outside of Hagerstown, Maryland. He attended Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. While working on his undergraduate degree, Marshall received an Emmy Award for his story highlighting a youth summer camp for siblings of cancer patients and survivors that he attended in his youth and continues to volunteer with today.

Marshall came to Raleigh after spending time with four television stations in Pennsylvania.  He began his television news career at WHP in Harrisburg where he interned and later worked as a production assistant. Marshall’s first taste of politics came as a reporter for WJAC-TV in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where he followed the recounts and court battles of the 2020 presidential election. Later, Marshall covered breaking news, crime, and politics during his time at WNEP-TV in Scranton, Pennsylvania, focusing on the 2022 U.S. Senate race between Mehmet Oz and John Fetterman.

He served as weekend anchor and chief political reporter at WPMT FOX43 in York, covering the 2024 presidential election and Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race. Marshall spent much of his time with state lawmakers in the halls of the Pennsylvania State Capitol. Marshall is no stranger to breaking news, covering the deadly mid-air collision between an American Eagle jet and an Army helicopter outside Washington, D.C., the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore and the late 2023 mass shooting in Maine. While in York, he was awarded an Emmy for his work highlighting a photographer working at an amusement park who utilizes a motorized wheelchair and a communication device.

Marshall is the self-proclaimed biggest fan of ‘The Office’. He still watches the show regularly and enjoyed visiting ‘The Office’ sites in and around Scranton during his time at WNEP. Marshall enjoys staying active. You might catch him running through the Triangle or hiking in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.
