The mountains will likely get another round of snow overnight Monday into Tuesday. But the front could be strong enough to bring the season's first snow to central North Carolina.

What You Need To Know

  •  More snow is in the forecast for the North Carolina mountains overnight, especially along the Tennessee border

  •  Some snow could make it out of the mountains and further east in the Charlotte and Triad areas

  •  Outside of the mountains, the snow would likely not accumulate, except possibly on grass or elevated surfaces

  •  The snow is expected to move out of the state by dawn

Snow that makes it east of the mountains likely won't stick around. But people in Charlotte, the Triad and possibly as far east as Durham County could see some flurries.

"The absolute upper limit of potential for this in non-mountain areas is a dusting on grassy or elevated surfaces, but even that will probably be hard to come by," Spectrum News 1 meteorologist Matthew East said. Any snow is expected to be more of a novelty than any real disturbance, he said.

The forecast shows less than half an inch of snow could fall in Charlotte, Concord, Albemarle, Stateville and Winston-Salem.

Along the Tennessee border region and in higher elevations, mountains communities could see another several inches of snow before dawn Tuesday.
