UNION CO., N.C. — A home exploded in Union County Sunday morning, injuring two people inside, according to deputies.
It happened at a home on Steeple Chase Circle in Weddington.
The Union County Sheriff’s office said they received numerous calls regarding the sound of an explosion just before 9 a.m.
When first responders got to the home, they said it had “severe damage.”
A man was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in critical condition, while a woman was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries, according to Union County Public Communications Director Liz Cooper. Both are expected to make a full recovery, according to The Associated Press.
The Union County Fire Marshal's Office said they will lead the investigation into what caused the blast, with an assist from Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).
The explosion is still under investigation, according to county officials, who said it looks like it was accidental, the AP reported.
