Just a week after North Carolina's primary elections, the White House announced President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will be back in the state in late March.

The president's visit, coming at the start of what promises to be a long campaign season, could line North Carolina up as a key battleground state in the 2024 election.

The White House said the stop in North Carolina would be on March 26, but did not say where the president and vice president would be and what the official purpose of the visit will be.

Former President Donald Trump won North Carolina in 2020, edging out Biden by less than 1.5%.

In the same election, North Carolina voters elected Republican Ted Budd to the Senate and reelected Democrats Gov. Roy Cooper and Attorney General Josh Stein. 

There are still months to go in the primary season ahead of the 2024 General Election, but the two top candidates on the ticket, Trump and Biden, have all but claimed their party nominations. 

The former president was in North Carolina March 2, days before the primary election. He endorsed Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson's bid for governor in the GOP primary.

Trump won the state's primary on Super Tuesday, along with more than a dozen other states. Trump's main rival for the nomination, Nikki Hayley, dropped out after the March 5 primaries. 

Biden was last in North Carolina in January, when he talked about the American Rescue Plan. Harris was in Durham on March 1, when she announced millions to help support underserved small businesses in North Carolina. 

North Carolina voters can expect to see a lot more of Trump, Biden and their surrogates ahead of the General Election as both sides vye for the state's 16 electoral college votes in November.
