The Carolina Panthers fired head coach Frank Reich Monday. The NFL team got off to a rough 1-10 start to the season so far with the No. 1 draft pick at quarterback.
The firing comes after the Panthers lost to the Tennessee Titans 17-10 Sunday. That's the team's fourth loss in a row.
The Panthers also fired assistant head coach and running backs coach Duce Staley and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown later on Monday, the team said.
Chris Tabor, the team's special teams coordinator, will take over as interim head coach, the Panthers said Monday.
"I met with Coach Reich this morning and informed him that he will not continue as head coach of the Carolina Panthers," said David Tepper, the team's owner.
"I want to thank Frank for his dedication and service, and we wish him well," Tepper said in a statement.
"Senior assistant Jim Caldwell will be a special advisor to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, who will take over play-calling duties," he said.
Staley and McCown were out once Tabor took the helm on Monday.
"Staley came here with a strong tie to former head coach Frank Reich, as they worked together in Philadelphia. The Panthers are 29th in the league in rushing this season, a drastic departure from last season's success in that area," the Panthers said in a statement.
Tepper hired Reich in January to fix one of the league’s worst offenses over the past few seasons and develop Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick. The team gave up four draft picks and top wide receiver D.J. Moore to acquire Young this past offseason in the hopes of winning multiple Super Bowls.
The team has had the worst season in the NFL so far, with just one win. The Panthers have not won a game on the road this season.
Reich came to Charlotte after four years with the Indianapolis Colts. He was fired as head coach of the Colts a year ago after a 3-5-1 start.
