A private security guard at Charlotte's transit center shot and killed a man at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Uniformed security guards, who work for Allied Universal, had an encounter with someone under a light rail bridge on 4th Street, CMPD said, just outside the transit center.
"One Allied security employee, perceiving the deadly threat, discharged their weapon, striking the subject," according to a police news release.
Police identified the man as 24-year-old Kashaune Lavonne Teal.
Police and MEDIC quickly arrived, CMPD said, but Teal was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives are investigating the shooting. Police did not say whether anyone was arrested.
