The video shows Lt. Corey Brooks running up the highway to the burning tractor trailer.
The driver inside is unconscious as Brooks tries to get him out of the truck cab.
When he can't wake the man, Brooks pulls him over the passenger seat and down from the cab as flames rise outside the windshield.
Body camera video, released Wednesday by the Salisbury Police Department, shows the dramatic rescue on Interstate 85 in North Carolina.
After Brooks got the man safely from the cab, a woman is seen coming across the highway to help.
The two pull the man, identified as Michael Williams, across the highway to safety, according to the police.
It happened on Aug. 8, according to the police department. Brooks was headed to a different incident just before 9 p.m. when he saw the tractor-trailer hit a retaining wall and catch fire.
Brooks called for backup but did not wait before pulling the man from the burning truck.
Brooks has been with the Salisbury Police Department since 2001, starting as a patrol office. He now serves as lieutenant of the criminal investigations/violent crimes unit.
