An officer with the Mooresville Police Department was arrested Wednesday and charged with four counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the department.
Accusations against Officer Matthew Beebe, 37, surfaced on Friday when someone told command staff at the police department about the alleged sexual misconduct. Beebe was given a $60,000 bond.
“The alleged actions of this individual do not reflect the mission, vision, and values of Mooresville Police Department and those of our community,” said MPD Chief Ron Campurciani.
“We understand that this impacts public trust of our department. However, we moved quickly and decisively to take action on these allegations. We are committed more than ever to serving and protecting our community,” he said in a news release.
The Iredell County District Attorney's Office has asked for a special prosecutor to handle the case, according to the police department.
Police said they expect more charges as they continue to investigate.
Beebe has been suspended, according to police.
