HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — A 30-year-old man is dead after a police shooting in Holly Springs Tuesday night, according to the police department.
Police said Ryan Eric Schlosser "attacked the officers with a knife" before the shooting.
Officers went to Cobalt Creek Way in Holly Springs just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday after reports of a person "acting erratically, verbally threatening residents, and blocking access to their driveway and garage," according to a news release from the department.
Schlosser, who lives on Cobalt Creek Way, was still standing in a driveway on the short residential street when police arrived. He was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries, according to police.
The department said one officer was taken to the hospital but was not seriously injured.
Police said the two officers involved, James Colucci and Edgar Hernandez, had both been with the Holly Springs Police Department since early 2020.
Colucci also had more than three years of experience with another North Carolina law enforcement agency before joining the department, police said.
The department said they planned to release 911 calls to the public.
The Holly Springs Police Department said the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating, which is standard practice after a police shooting.
