A person was fatally struck by a freight train in downtown Durham Tuesday afternoon, closing nearby intersections for a time as police investigated.
A heavy police presence covered part of the railroad tracks near DPAC and Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The person was hit at the intersection of West Ramseur and South Corcoran streets, authorities said.
Police worked Tuesday to direct drivers around intersections where the train was stopped. Road closures were cleared by Wednesday morning.
