CASWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A suspect surrendered Wednesday afternoon after a shooting left a Caswell County sheriff's deputy wounded, the agency said.
Deputy Aaron Tyndall was shot three times while serving a restraining order Wednesday morning, according to the Caswell County Sheriff's Office. He was awake and alert in hospital Wednesday afternoon, a sheriff's office spokesman said.
The suspect, Kevin de Silva, barricaded himself in the home but later surrendered, the spokesman said.
Three people in the home with de Silva were allowed to leave during the standoff, said Caswell County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Greg Ingram.
It's unknown what the relationship is among them and de Silva, officials said.
The shooting happened in the Semora community of Caswell County, northeast of Roxboro close to the Virginia state line, when two deputies went to the home at about 9:30 a.m. to serve a restraining order, Ingram said.
Tyndall, who has been with the sheriff's office for over three years, was injured the day after a slain Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputy was laid to rest.
Sgt. Matthew Fishman was shot Aug. 1 while serving involuntary commitment papers at a Dudley community home. He died from his injuries the next day.
Two other Wayne County deputies were shot in the incident but recovered from their injuries. The suspect in that shooting was found dead inside a home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
