FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — One officer was shot and a suspect wanted in a homicide is dead after a shooting Friday morning in Clemmons, N.C., according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
The wounded Greensboro officer did not have life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. Greensboro Police Officer M.J. Ambrosio was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in stable condition, according to the department.
The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation’s Fugitive and Missing Person Task Force, which included officers from local departments, was searching for a suspect in a Charlotte homicide.
Deputies and officers with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police Department, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Greensboro Police Department were working together to serve a warrant on the suspect.
Officials say the suspect was found at a gas station on Lewisville-Clemmons Road.
"Around 8:12 a.m. there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and law enforcement officers. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and one law enforcement officer was injured," the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said.
The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting, which is standard protocol in a police shooting. The Greensboro Police Department said it is also conducting an internal investigation.
