CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton has now opted to get surgery on his injured foot, which has kept him out almost the entire season, according to the NFL network.
Newton hasn't played since the injury happened in week two against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Interim head coach Perry Fewell says Newton will have the surgery next week.

It's unclear how long his recovery will take, but the team will have to make a decision in March on whether or not to keep or cut Cam.
If he's released, the team would save just over $19 million.
